Today is George Washington’s Birthday

George Washington’s biggest legacy is his leadership. This is something sorely missing today in the city named for him. Born in Westmoreland County Virginia, he led the American Army to victory in the revolution. During the battle of Monmouth, Gen. Washington rode the American line encouraging his men not to flee but to hold their ground and fight.  His majestic appearance atop that white horse in his magnificent blue uniform gave confidence and direction to his men. Later, after serving as the first American President, he showed leadership by stepping aside and allowing the peaceful transition of power to the next President. Many in Europe thought he would decalre himself king, as that had been the way of the world to that point. Had Washington not stepped down and returned to Mount Vernon, America would be a very different place today.
